Armed Forces Weekend At Wollaton Park

We went on 26th June to the Armed Forces Weekend event at Wollaton Park.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I would say in summary that we had a really great time.

I'm not quite sure who organises this - I think its between Nottingham City Council who run Wollaton Park and The Ministry of Defence. Anyway, it was a mix of funfair, displays of tanks and guns, veterans marquees, plenty of food and drinks and ice-cream vans. We enjoyed the Royal Artillery climbing wall, and the various displays in the main arena including a re-enactment from the Civil War by Sealed Knot. It was also fascinating to walk through the veterans tent seeing the vaious local groups that have been involved in campaigns across the globe - WWII, but also Korea, and of course more recently Iraq and Afghanistan. We even had our face painted with proper camouflage - dead cool.

The event seemed well attended, but it might have been quieter on the Sunday when the football was on.
