Nottingham’s Broadmarsh centre is to get a refurbishment.
Nottingham’s Broadmarsh shopping centre owners Westfield have been planning for a £700 million redevelopment for nearly 10 years, however due to a down turn in the market the Broadmarsh plans have never been put into action.
Westfield is now planning to improve both entrances to the 40 year old centre and also plans to do some interior refurbishments as part of a £40 million makeover. The shopping centre has come under fire from Nottingham residents and business leaders who believe as the centre leads onto the train station it makes and leaves a negative impression with is budget stores, empty units and down market shops.
Some work has been carried out on Listergate; Westfield has commented that the redesign of the Listergate entrance will represent a continuation of the recent Lister Gate refurbishment.
Harvey Nichols, Debenhams and Marks & Spencer had been linked as potential anchor stores for the £700 million centre; however it now seems unlikely that those plans will come to light over the next few years.
The £40 million makeover will see centre upgrades, much needed building repairs as well as the former TK Maxx store reconfigured for new retailers. Westfield is hoping to attract new retailers to the centre but as of yet has not released any potential candidates.
