Description:
Nottingham’s famous German Christmas market could cease to exist in Nottingham this year. The German market has been a popular feature of the Market Square for the last six years in a row, attracting locals and visitors at this festive time of year.
Nottingham’s German market offered visitors the chance to shop for traditional handmade gifts and crafts, indulge in confectionary, gingerbread and smoked bratwurst sausages. The smell of mulled wine in the air and the sound of Christmas carols always evoked the Christmas spirit.
However Nottingham City Council is thinking of ending the market over fears that it is becoming boring. They have yet to comment on what they are thinking of replacing it with, although they have said they want something on the same scale as the beach, seen last year on the Market Square.
The good news is that the ice rink should be returning this year. If the German Christmas Market fails to materialise in December then the people of Nottingham may just have to travel to experience the real thing in Cologne, Hamburg or Munich. We will keep you posted later in the year.
