Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), based in Perth, have won a 25 year contract to maintain Nottingham’s street lights under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI). The contract will cover the replacement and upkeep of over 40,000 street lights across the city.
Tay Valley Lighting, a subsidiary of Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE), will carry out the necessary maintenance of Nottingham’s street lights.This will include replacing 25,000 old street lights in the next five years as well as fitting new white light lanterns.The brighter, more energy efficient new lights will also contribute to 17 per cent of the council's 30 per cent CO2 reduction target by 2016. They will also meet the European Lighting Standards.
SSE is becoming a dominant force in the UK as they now handle the lighting of 11 councils which totals over 550,000 street lights.
Chief operating officer Colin Hood said: “SSE is well established as the UK's leading street lighting contractor, and this latest contract will build on that.”
