Description:
Nottingham’s Old Market Square will be hosting a street athletics event on Saturday 11th September.
The athletics, which have been granted the Inspire Mark badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme, could help find new Olympic talent as well as provide a great spectator event for the city.
An eight lane artificial running track will be installed in the Square to allow the races to take place. The races, which are 60 metres each, will start at 10.30am and will be held at varying times throughout the day.
The races are suitable for anyone aged 8 – 19 years, and those interested in taking part are invited to head down to the event to compete against the best in Nottingham in this free competition.
Heats will be organised by age group and places for each category will be limited. It is advisable to pre-register for the event, although some places will be allocated on a first come first served basis on the day.
In addition to sprinting, young people can also enjoy a climbing wall, street soccer coaching and other athletic activities in the Square between 10.30am – 4.30pm.
The event on 11 September is the grand final in a series of street racing events held around Nottinghamshire in Broxtowe, Aspley, Strelley and Melbourne Park.
